Time Poster

Time Poster.jpg

For this poster we had to communicate the progress of a social issue over time. I chose to do the idea of gay rights from the 1960’s onwards because it is an issue that has made great strides within the last 60 years. I wanted the two men holding hands with the watch on the wrist to be the focal point of the poster, so that the watch was like the centre of a clock. I wanted the images of different pictures of protests to be circling the focal point to show the progress of this social issue. I made it so that half of the photos were of pride gatherings in the 1960s and 70s, so that they were black and white and contrasted well with the colourful, modern-day pride photos. I mostly used simple crop tools, as well as the eraser tool under different opacities in order to blend the background pictures together more seamlessly.

Illustrator Logo

For this project we had to create a logo for a company using adobe illustrator. I chose to make a logo for a ski equipment company as it's an activity that I really enjoy. I used simplistic shapes, such as a circle for the sun and triangles for trees and mountains, and a strong black border.

Illustrator Pattern

project 2-3.jpg

For this project we had to create a pattern on the program illustrator, using a relic from an ancient civilization. The piece I chose for my project is a gold griffin-headed armlet from Persia. This piece was a part of the Oxus treasure, an important collection of gold and silver artifacts to survive the Achaemenid period (550 BCE - 330 BCE). This piece was bought by Captain F.C . Burton from merchants who were travelling to Peshawar from Kabul. This piece is pure gold and has been intricately chiseled.

Conceptual Image

project 4.jpg

For this project I wanted to go with a very cosmic, psychedelic and philosophical approach. I wanted to use the images of Earth and Jupiter from space as they are both important bodies within our solar system, Earth being the only planet to sustain life, and Jupiter being the largest gas planet. I wanted to use the image of the Milky Way within the planet to represent human arrogance, and how we see ourselves as the centre of the universe. I wanted to use the image of a solar eclipse behind the “godlike” figure to show her devine status through the imagery of light appearing behind her. I used a solar eclipse to keep in theme with all the other cosmic elements within the piece. I lined all the elements up vertically because it looked the most aesthetically pleasing that way.

Abstract Portrait

For this project we had to make an abstract portrait. I chose to make a drawing of John Deacon, the bassist of Queen. Queen is one of my favourite bands, so I really enjoy making art based off of the band (which you can see if you check out the grade 11 art section of my website). I drew around him some 80's elements to highlights that era of Queen's history. This particular outfit I believe is from The Works tour in 1984.

Mask

For this project we had to create a mask. I decided to make a mold of my face with paper mache and petroleum jelly. The creation of the main mask took place over a couple of days, the mask stayed attached to my face for about 5 hours. After that, I put the mask on a styrofoam skull to dry overnight. once the mask was completely dry, I applied a few more layers of paper mache. i filed the edges of the mask down and began painting it. I wasn't sure as to what colour scheme I wanted to go with, so I went for a tribal inspired aesthetic with bright, contrasting colours and designs.

Animation Project

For this project we had to create a simple animation that included some basic principles of animation and sound. I chose to make an animation of a turtle eating a jellyfish. I tried to make the movements of the turtle and the jellyfish seem as legitimate as possible with my abilities, as adobe animate is a software that I am very new to. I create the assets using physical mediums, such as pencil crayons for the turtle and watercolour for the jellyfish, and then scanned them into the computer. I did this because in all fairness, I am much more talented with my hands than with a computer.
